Austin – Yesterday, Thursday, February 25, Senator Robert Nichols was the speaker at the Silsbee Chamber annual banquet. The Senator spoke about the effects of the growing population in Texas and how it is impacting the economic development of our state.
He also spoke about his recent appointment to a second term on the Texas Sunset Commission. Before the 85th Legislative Session in January 2017, the Commission will evaluate over 20 boards and commissions to determine if they are still vital to the State. First elected to the Texas Senate in 2007, Robert Nichols represents 19 counties including the greater part of East Texas.
In the Texas Senate, Nichols serves as Chairman for the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Senate Finance, Natural Resources and Economic Development, and Intergovernmental Relations Committees. He is a member of the Legislative Audit Committee and the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission..
During his five sessions as a state senator, Nichols authored and passed legislation to protect landowners' rights, increase educational opportunities in East Texas and reform transportation policies. He has worked to reduce Medicaid fraud, and promote free-market principles. He was designated as a Champion for Children by the Equity Center and a Fighter of Free Enterprise by the Texas Association of Business.
