Austin — Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) was recognized by the Palestine ISD at their board meeting on November 18, 2013 for his work on education during the 83rd Legislative Session.

"I was honored to receive this recognition from the school board," said Nichols. "Education is and always has been one of the most important issues in our state. I will continue to work with each of the 102 school districts within Senate District 3 to ensure students have the tools they need to be successful in their education."

"Palestine ISD recognized Senator Nichols for his dedication to education during the 83rd Legislative Session," said Jason Marshall, Superintendent for Palestine ISD. " We appreciate his assistance in helping to reduce testing for high school students, restoring some of the lost funding from previous legislative sessions, and his help in diversifying the high school graduation plan which gives students a chance to take more Career and Technical education courses."

First elected to the Texas Senate in 2006, Robert Nichols represents 19 counties including the greater part of East Texas.

During his four sessions as a state senator, Nichols authored and passed legislation to protect landowners' rights, increase educational opportunities in East Texas and reform transportation policies. He has worked to reduce Medicaid fraud, and promote free-market principles. During his time with the Sunset Advisory Committee, he was able to help eliminate six state agencies which saved the tax payers $161.9 million. He has been named a 'Champion for Children' by the Equity Center, a 'Friend of County Government' by the Texas Association of Counties and a 'Champion of Free Enterprise' by the Texas Association of Business.
