Austin — Today, state Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) welcomed residents from Angelia County to the Texas Capitol for Lufkin/Angelina County Legislative Days, which are today and Thursday.
"These days are a great way for residents to learn more about the political process and for legislators to hear directly from constituents during the legislative session," said Nichols.
The group of about 80 residents from Angelina County will meet with Nichols and Rep. Jim McReynolds (D-Lufkin). In addition, they will tour the Capitol and hear from top agency officials including Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams.
McReynolds feels Lufkin/Angelina County Days are one of the best parts of the 140-day session.
"It's always such a pleasure to have the "wise people" from the east come to their capitol," said McReynolds. "Recognizing them on the House Floor, attending the briefing and enjoying the food and fellowship is always a high point for me in the legislative session."
