(AUSTIN) -- Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, announced today (Wednesday) that Somerset High School has preliminarily been awarded a Texas High School Redesign and Restructuring, Cycle 4 grant of $297,268 from the Texas Education Agency.
The grant will provide high school campuses in need of additional academic support resources for implementing innovative educational initiatives. These initiatives are designed to improve student performance school-wide and will create demonstration projects that will produce models for successful practices.
One additional institution in Senator Zaffirini's District 21 also was preliminarily awarded a Texas High School Redesign and Restructuring grant, totaling $597,268 for the two high schools.
"I am delighted that Somerset High School will receive this important grant that will develop groundbreaking programs designed to assist our high school students achieve new and greater levels of success," Senator Zaffirini said. "I also am proud of the other deserving academic institution that demonstrated a strong commitment to educational excellence, and I look forward to this program's confirmation of the award."
Confirmation of the award is pending verification by the Texas Education Agency that the grants comply with statutory requirements and with the intent and purposes of the grant program as applied to the academic institutions.
