(AUSTIN) -- Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, announced today (March 13) that Beeville Independent School District's AC Jones High School will receive a $50,000 grant from the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Network Acceleration Grant Program. Two other schools in Senator Zaffirini's District 21 received T-STEM grants, totaling $142,000 for the three schools.
The T-STEM grant program seeks to improve math and science skills among Texas public school students and encourage increased participation and pursuit of science, technology, engineering and math or STEM fields. T-STEM was launched by the Texas High School Project, a statewide public-private initiative that promotes educational excellence, college participation and increased high school graduation rates.
"I am pleased that AC Jones High School received this T-STEM Network Acceleration grant and am proud of the deserving schools and school districts that demonstrated a strong commitment to educational excellence," Senator Zaffirini said. "I look forward the program's confirmation of the awards and congratulate each school for this important recognition."
Confirmation of the awards is pending verification by the Texas Education Agency that the grants comply with statutory requirements and the intent and purposes of the grant program as applied to the school and its district.
