Austin, TX — Today, Mayor Ramiro Garza of the City of Edinburg announced that he will not be seeking re-election at the end of his term. This decision comes as he chooses to focus on his family and his health after recently receiving a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

In response to Mayor Garza’s announcement, Senator “Chuy” Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Mayor Ramiro Garza has been a great leader for the City of Edinburg. He has been a tireless advocate for the City of Edinburg, dedicated to regionalism and community development, and led the City to be once again designated as an All-America City. I respect his decision not to run for re-election at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he undergoes medical treatment.”
