Austin, TX - The Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Club in Austin, Texas, named State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa as the inaugural recipient of the biannual Leadership Award. Mary McRoberts, Executive Director of the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, said this award was well deserved.
Senator Hinojosa expressed his appreciation for the honor of this award. "I am honored that the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Club has recognized me with this inaugural award. Education is the best equalizer and is the key to our children's future.
As Vice Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee for the past three sessions, I have fought and secured funds for the TEXAS AIM Program. Investments in this evidence-based academic intervention and remediation initiative has helped those most at risk to increase grades, test scores, and has led to better attendance. I am committed to continue fighting to secure funds for this program," Senator Hinojosa said.
The purpose of the State Alliance is to exclusively promote the social welfare of boys and girls as served by various Boys & Girls Clubs. The biannual Leadership Award is given to an individual with long-term service to Boys & Girls Clubs through volunteerism, employment or donor relations, documented impact on Texas Boys & Girls Clubs, and an affiliation to a local Club, statewide movement or national organization (BGCA).
"Senator Hinojosa is a true champion of Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the State of Texas. Because of him, thousands of kids will receive academic intervention services and will get back to grade level in reading and math. Many more will surpass grade level and graduate from high school because of Senator Hinojosa. We could not provide the academic services throughout the state without his support. He is a true champion of Boys & Girls Clubs," McRoberts said.
