AUSTIN - This Saturday, September 22nd, the Corpus Christi Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting their third annual City Wide Health Fair at Del Mar College West Campus. The event takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
The community event will feature 75 vendors offering health information and free services such as diabetes screenings, cholesterol tests, bone density screenings and a body fat analysis. Healthy snacks will also be available as a way of educating families about eating well.
Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa plans to attend the event and encourages the community to take advantage of the free health screenings and educational tips.
"Educating our communities about their health is a top priority, particularly for the uninsured and our children. This free health fair is a creative way of bringing the community together to learn more about healthy eating, potential health risks, or possible early diagnoses. Prevention is key. Learning how to stay healthy not only keeps our Texans healthy and living longer, but also prevents higher costs down the road," stated Hinojosa.
The event will also feature a Christus Spohn Carevan that will travel the city and offer free health screenings and an RTA bus will shuttle people every hour from the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown to the event free of charge. Del Mar College West Campus is located at 4101 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi.
