AUSTIN -- State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa is pleased to announce that the Senate Subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure will hold a hearing in Corpus Christi Thursday.
Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said the hearing is crucial because it will give Coastal Bend communities an opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns regarding the impact of the realignment of the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the closure of Naval Station Ingleside by the Pentagon.
"These are big economic changes in our region that will significantly impact jobs and development," Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said. "I think Senator Shapleigh and the subcommittee will be very interested in hearing the Coastal Bend's perspective on BRAC."
Senator Eliot Shapleigh, D-El Paso, chair of the Subcommittee, will take testimony from the public, community leaders and elected officials regarding issues such as Department of Defense redevelopment efforts, recommendations on how the State can provide more financial flexibility for communities where military bases have closed, and the coordination of state and local efforts in creating infrastructure and support for communities.
For more information on the hearing contact Gloriana Guerra in Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa's Austin Capitol office at (512) 463-0120.
