Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa and City of Mission to Host Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee

When: Wednesday, July 26th at 9:00 a.m.

Where: Mission City Hall, Council Chambers, 1201 East 8th Street

AUSTIN -- Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa is pleased to announce that the Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security will hold a public hearing at Mission City Hall this Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

The Senate Committee will hear testimony regarding federal, state and local efforts to combat criminal activity on the Texas/Mexico border and illegal border crossings. Committee members will also examine the impact of security measures on the border economy.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said it is vital that lawmakers hear the concerns and thoughts of communities and businesses in the border region regarding issues such as commerce and border security.

"I think Senator Carona and the committee will find the testimony very informative, and it will allow them to understand firsthand many of the concerns that border communities have regarding security and the economy," Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said. "We live in a very important international trade corridor that serves not only Texas, but the entire United States, and we are directly impacted whenever lawmakers in Washington D.C. or Austin enact border security or international trade laws."

Members of the community, elected officials, and community and business leaders are invited to testify at the public hearing. Senator John Carona, R-Dallas, is chair of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security.
