(AUSTIN, TX) — Tuesday, on the Senate floor, Senator Lois Kolkhorst spoke in memory of Navasota Police Sgt. Mark Allen Butler before the Senate adjourned in his memory.
“It is truly with profound honor and respect I ask we adjourn today in memory of Sgt. Butler, whose end of watch was January 15, 2025. Sgt. Butler saved the lives of civilians on Hwy 6 when he stopped the suspect going the wrong way. He gave his life to save many.”
Sgt. Butler served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army, assigned to the 1st Cavalry Horse Detachment for six years, then in the Reserves for four. He graduated from TEEX and served in both the Grimes County Sheriff’s Department and the Navasota Police Department.
“I want to thank Chief Mize and the Navasota Police Department for all they did for the family during this time even though they were in tremendous grief. And to the surrounding counties who came to pay their respects and step in during this time of grief and take the calls and help patrol - that’s what law enforcement does. It’s a family. Truly a family. So today, we adjourn in honor of Sgt. Mark Allen Butler and thank him for his service.”
