SENATOR NELSON RE-APPOINTED CHAIR OF SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE

AUSTIN – Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, today was re-appointed by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for her fourth consecutive session as chair of the Senate Finance Committee. She was also reappointed to the State Affairs Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Ports.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to craft a fiscally responsible budget that bolsters our state at a time when many are struggling," Senator Nelson said. "Our task is clear — keep our commitment to education, defeat the coronavirus and make the investments necessary to speed up our economic recovery."

Earlier this week, Comptroller Glen Hegar delivered a revenue estimate that was better than many had anticipated but framed the difficult appropriations process facing the Legislature this session. "Through hurricanes and recessions, Texas has proven time after time that working together we can overcome any adversity and come out stronger on the other side. We are up to this challenge," Senator Nelson said.

Senator Nelson became the first woman in Texas history to chair the budget-writing committee in 2014. She is also co-chair of the Texas Privacy Protection Advisory Council, co-chair of the Transition Legislative Oversight Committee, and a member of the Legislative Budget Board.

Bills filed by Senator Nelson for the 87th Legislative Session can be found here.

SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is chair of the Senate Finance Committee and the highest-ranking Republican in the Texas Senate.
