AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, today issued a statement on the Biennial Revenue Estimate (BRE):
"This revenue estimate highlights the resiliency of our Texas economy," Senator Nelson, chair of the Senate Finance Committee said. "Tough decisions remain, but I am confident we can pass a budget that meets our essential needs, maintains our commitment to education and follows the principles of fiscal responsibility that put us in a stronger position than other states to withstand this unprecedented pandemic.”
The BRE represents the Comptroller's revenue projections for the remainder of fiscal year 2021 and the upcoming 2022-23 biennium, which provides a marker for the Legislature as it works to pass the state's two-year budget. The Comptroller will issue a Certification Revenue Estimate in the weeks following the legislative session to certify that the budget is within available revenue, as required by the Texas Constitution.
