SENATE SELECT COMMITTEE ON CYBERSECURITY RELEASES INTERIM REPORT

AUSTIN, TX – Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, announced today that The Senate Select Committee on Cybersecurity released its interim report - a complete overview of the state of cybersecurity in Texas, a brief legislative history, answers to keys questions for legislators, and recommendations to mitigate cybersecurity threats facing the state. The report comes in response to the charges laid out in House Bill 8 in 85th legislative session.

"With billions of attempts to hack our state's systems each month, we must continue working to protect sensitive data, bolster our state's infrastructure and grow our cybersecurity workforce," said Senator Nelson. "These recommendations are a result of many hours of hearings, testimony and research over the course of the interim, and they will help keep private data out of the hands of hackers."

The report found that Texas is well positioned to become a leader on cybersecurity policy. The recommendations in this report further the state's goal of protecting valuable state data and ensuring that vital services are provided without interruption. Based on those recommendations, Senator Nelson plans to introduce legislation that will strengthen DIR oversight of agency cybersecurity, assist local entities in responding to cyber incidents, foster the cybersecurity workforce pipeline, and secure critical infrastructure.
