Barrientos Unveils Disability-Related Grants
AUSTIN - Senator Gonzalo Barrientos (District 14) today made the announcement of six new grants awarded by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) to central Texas organizations. A press conference held at the Capitol included opening remarks by Senator Barrientos and Roger Webb of TCDD, who is responsible for allocating the grant funds. Several program directors also made remarks: Dennis Borel of the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, Sheila Holbrook-White of Texas Citizen Fund, and Laura Warren of Texas Parent to Parent. All three expressed praise to both Barrientos for his efforts in aiding Texans with disabilities, and Webb for acquiring the grant money. Other disability programs slated to receive funds are Knowability, Inc. and VSA Arts of Texas. "These grants will fund programs that address various needs, from housing to disability obstacles," commented Barrientos. "I am proud of the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities for securing these grants to benefit individuals that need assistance the most, those challenged with disabilities. We cannot do enough to support these efforts."
