Senator Kip Averitt Takes Oath of Office
AUSTIN - Today, April 24, 2002, Senator Kip Averitt became the new senator of District 22, the area surrounding the city of Waco. He replaces Senator David Sibley, who resigned after 11 years in the Senate. Governor Rick Perry administered the oath of office to Averitt in the Senate chamber. As part of the oath, the new senator promised to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the country and the state of Texas.
After nine years in the Texas House of Representatives, Kip Averitt said he is looking forward to facing, with his new colleagues, the "daunting challenges" awaiting him in the next session, starting January 2003.
Born in McGregor, Texas, Averitt is a small business owner and certified public accountant. His wife of 23 years, Kathy Bradshaw Averitt, was next to him during the ceremony. Also attending were their four children -Richard, Michael, Daniel and Kristina.
