First Meeting Held For Senate Economic Development Subcommittee on 911 Emergency Communications
AUSTIN - The Senate Economic Development Subcommittee on 911 Emergency Communications met for the first time today, Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in a public hearing at the State Capitol. Senator Frank L. Madla, from San Antonio chairs the subcommittee; Senators Troy Fraser from Horseshoe Bay and John Whitmire from Houston are members. Representative Bill Carter of Fort Worth was also present at today's meeting.
The subcommittee met to discuss and hear invited testimony regarding authorization for and allowable uses of 9-1-1 fees. They also heard testimony that related to collection, remittance, and distribution of 911 fees, service fee revenues, wireless telecommunications connections, local exchange access lines, and statutory basis for 911 fees.
Invited testimony was provided by James Goerke; Executive Director for the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications, Laverne Hogan, Executive Director for the Greater Harris County 911 Emergency Network; Bill Munn, Executive Director of the Tarrant County 911 District, and Captain Joe Hanna, Service Bureau, Richardson Police Department of Richardson, Texas.
No public testimony was heard today.
The subcommittee stands recessed subject to call of the chair.
