LUBBOCK - The Joint Interim Committee on Water Resources Development and Management is working to organize and improve the implementation of Senate Bill 1, known as the Texas Water Plan. At a meeting in Lubbock, the committee heard from state agencies, including representatives of the Texas Water Development Board, Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and researchers from Texas Tech University. Others testifying included representatives from the cities of Lubbock, Plainview, Levelland and numerous water conservation districts. The committee was welcomed by the Mayor of Lubbock, State Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock, and John Montford, Chancellor of Texas Tech University.
Chairing the committee was Senator J.E. "Buster" Brown of Lake Jackson who was responsible for successfully navigating the water bill through both houses last Session. The committee members are Senators Ken Armbrister of Victoria, Carlos F. Truan of Corpus Christi, Eddie Lucio of Brownsville, and Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio.
