Chairman Hancock Calls Hearing on Power Outage Financial Impacts
Senate Business & Commerce Committee to meet Thursday; public comment web portal available

AUSTIN, TX - Sen. Kelly Hancock, Chairman of the Senate Business & Commerce Committee, yesterday announced a follow-up hearing on recent widespread power outages. The investigative hearing will examine the financial impacts to the electric grid and market participants.

"Our committee heard nearly 24 hours of detailed testimony during last week's deep dive into the system-wide failures that occurred with the winter storms," said Chairman Hancock. "We're continuing to investigate each aspect of this disaster and work on detailed solutions for our electric infrastructure and market."

The hearing examining financial impacts begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 4. A live stream of the proceedings will be available on the Texas Senate website.

Invited testimony for the hearing includes the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the Public Utility Commission (PUC) and multiple public and private sector market experts.

Live public testimony will take place during subsequent hearings. However, members of the public are encouraged to submit written comment for Thursday's hearing through a specially-designated web portal at: https://senate.texas.gov/business-and-commerce-comments/

Sen. Hancock represents Texas Senate District 9, which includes portions of Dallas and Tarrant Counties. He currently serves as Chairman of the Texas Senate Committee on Business & Commerce.
