Nominations open for Texas Senate District 29 Environmental Excellence Recognition Program
Deadline for submissions is Feb. 14

El Paso — The deadline to nominate an individual or organization for the Environmental Excellence Recognition Program (EERP), a new legacy program initiated by state Sen. José Rodríguez's Senate District 29 Environment Advisory Committee, has been extended to Feb. 14, 2019. The first EERP awards will be presented in conjunction with the City of El Paso Environmental Services Department Earth Day events taking place April 20, 2019, in Downtown El Paso.

"It is my sincere hope this effort can add to the recognition and advancement of the many positive environmental impacts undertaken by individuals and organizations in the District 29 community," said Sen. Rodríguez. "We have much work to do for the present and for future generations."

The EERP will help identify, articulate and strengthen a regional culture of conservation, preservation and best practices for the environment. The categories are: Innovation, Leadership, Excellence, Education and Research. The EERP will also honor one individual each year for lifetime achievement in furthering environmental issues in the community.

Individuals and organizations that meet eligibility requirements for participating in an environmental project may be nominated. An environmental project is defined as:

Activities directly related to the promotion, protection, improvement, conservation, stewardship or benefit of natural resources and the environment, which are related to the following areas of interest: air quality, water quality, waste management, remediation of affected properties, recycling, land preservation, sustainable food systems, building and infrastructure design and development, and transportation.

Instructions on how to submit a nomination to the EERP Review Panel can be found at Nomination criteria can be found here.
