July 26, 2001
AUSTIN, TX--State Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville, extends an invitation to the Rio Grande Valley media to attend the Rio Grande Valley Psychological Association (RGVPA) meeting and dinner on Friday, July 27, 2001, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Casa de Palmas-Renaissance Hotel in McAllen.
The organization will honor Sen. Lucio for his legislative efforts toward the fields of mental health and mental retardation with a special award. As guest speaker, he will outline legislation that passed during the 77th legislation session impacting both the providers of mental health services and the recipients of those services.
The RGVPA is a local area society associated with the Texas Psychological Association and very involved in promoting psychology at the state level as well. Active since the mid-seventies, the RGVPA has always strived to be a place for Valley psychologists and other residents to meet and promote the role of psychology in society. The group's primary commitment is to help the average Valley resident learn that psychology plays an important role in promoting everyone's well-being, and not just of the mentally ill.
For more information please feel free to contact John Pinkerman, Ph.D., past president of the association at 956-994-3880.
