Austin, TX -- "I am saddened deeply by the loss of life, injuries and property damage caused by the violent storms that struck areas along the Texas-Mexico border Tuesday evening. My prayers and sincere condolences go out to the families of those who died in Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Mexico, and to those who were injured or displaced.
"I am grateful for the National Guard units and the state and federal agencies who are leading the recovery effort and working tirelessly to care for persons affected. The destruction left in the storm's wake includes homes, schools and essential area structures. Our efforts to rebuild these communities will require the support of state agencies and resources as well as the assistance of state officials and legislative members.
"I applaud Governor Rick Perry for his early authorization and activation of search and rescue teams in anticipation of these damaging storms."
