Highlights for Today's Hearing
- SB 1 maintains state funding for ERS retirement at the 10-percent constitutional cap and keeps member contributions at 9.5 percent.
- SB 1 continues state employee health benefits at current levels without any additional per-member state contributions, as a result of the Group Benefits Program's ability to achieve significant savings through new Pharmacy Benefit and Third Party Administrator contracts.
- The budget allocates all remaining bonding authority authorized by voters for CPRIT under Proposition 15 in 2007.
- The budget maintains services for veterans at FY 18-19 levels, along with $20M at the Health and Human Services Commission to continue a veterans mental health program established through legislation authored by Senator Nelson in 2015.
Statement from Senator Nelson: "As the daughter of a World War II veteran, I am grateful for the service of our military. This budget supports a strong array of services and benefits to support our troops on active duty and help returning servicemen and women with re-entry to civilian life."
