AUSTIN – The Senate Finance Committee will review the comprehensive costs of Hurricane Harvey as part of interim charges handed down today by the lieutenant governor.
“The full force of state government has been brought to bear during this crisis, and we continue to help families, communities, schools and businesses that have been devastated by this storm. Harvey will have far-reaching budget implications, and we are working closely with our state agencies to ensure that needs are being met,” said the committee chair, Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound.
After each legislative session, Senate committees undertake interim studies to review the most pressing challenges facing our state and to make recommendations to the next Legislature. Yesterday the lieutenant governor released a series of interim charges to nine Senate committees relating to Hurricane Harvey. The Senate Finance Committee will:
- Monitor all funds currently being used to address Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery. Identify ways to maximize the use of federal funds and ensure the efficient use of state funds.
- Evaluate the long-term impact of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas economy and the gulf coast region.
The Senate Finance Committee will meet Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 10:00am to hear invited testimony only on the above interim charges.
