AUSTIN – The Texas Senate today approved the Conference Committee Report for SB 55 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, which creates a grant program at the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to support community programs for veterans mental health.
"This legislation will allow the state to partner with communities and the private sector to help veterans recover from the psychological wounds of wars in their own communities and with programs tailored specifically to their needs," said Senator Nelson. "SB 55 creates a truly unique program that will truly help veterans."
SB 55 creates the Texas Veteran's Initiative, received $20 million in the state budget and directs HHSC to seek $20 million in private matching funds over the next two years.
