AUSTIN — The Senate Jurisprudence Committee today unanimously approved SB 946 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to allow victims of stalking and other domestic violence crimes to terminate their lease agreements under certain circumstances.
"We have been working over the past several sessions to make it easier for victims to escape from dangerous situations," said Senator Nelson. "No one should have to choose between their safety and the financial impact of breaking a lease agreement."
Specifically, SB 946 expands the list of victims who are eligible for early lease termination to include stalking victims; victims of attempted assault or abuse; and victims of indecency with a child and sexual performance with a child.
