AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, today was given the "Legislative Excellence Award" by the Brain Injury Association of Texas.
"We are truly grateful for Senator Nelson's work on the Senate Committees on Finance and on Health and Human Services," said Erin Garrison, Administrative Director of the Brain Injury Association of Texas. "Her efforts in these roles have been vital for Texans most in need, particularly those who have sustained a brain injury. Her thoughtful and responsible leadership through the challenging budgeting process will help Texas families receive critical services for loved ones impacted by brain injuries."
The association highlighted Senator Nelson's role in restoring funding for the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services (CRS) fund during the 2011 legislative session. The only program targeted specifically for brain injury, last year CRS provided short term rehabilitation services for approximately 850 Texans who had sustained a brain injury.
"As chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, I recognize the unique needs of survivors of brain injuries, as well as their families," said Senator Nelson. "The Brain Injury Association of Texas advocates tirelessly for their welfare, and I am honored by this award."
