AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, was recognized this week by the Young Conservatives of Texas as an all-time conservative leader in the Texas Senate.
Senator Nelson's career ranking with the organization is the highest in the Texas Senate, and she is one of two Senators named to the 2011 Historic Honor Roll. "I am honored to be recognized by the Young Conservatives of Texas, whose volunteers work tirelessly to promote conservative principles to Texas youth," she said.
The Young Conservatives of Texas evaluated voting records of the 82nd Legislature, including bills requiring photo identification to vote, protecting 2nd Amendment rights, and banning sanctuary cities in Texas. Senator Nelson's record placed her in the top three most conservative Senators.
Senator Nelson serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services and as a member of the Finance, Nominations and Government Organization Committees.
During the most recent legislative session, she led efforts to balance the budget without raising taxes by identifying waste and inefficiency in health and human services programs. She also authored legislation to help children in foster care thrive, protect seniors from exploitation, and guard the privacy of personal medical information.
