AUSTIN — The Texas Hospital Association today announced Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, as recipient of the Texas Hospital Advocacy Tribute award in recognition of her accomplishments related to health care during the 81st Regular Session of the Texas Legislature.
"Senator Nelson distinguished herself as a true hero for health care. Through her hard work and dedication, Texas made significant strides in expanding health care coverage, addressing workforce shortages, and improving quality and patient safety," said THA President/CEO Dan Stultz, M.D., FACP, FACHE.
The Texas Hospital Association created the Texas Hospital Advocacy Tribute award in 1997 to honor state legislators and other public officials who demonstrate outstanding leadership on issues important to hospitals and health systems.
Senator Nelson passed key reforms last session to expand access to health care in Texas and ensure patient safety. Her legislative accomplishments included a bill to improve the working environment for hospital nurses; expand and fully fund a hospital infection reporting system; and provide state assistance for small businesses to help extend health benefits to their employees.
"Our hospitals play an indispensable role in the health care system, and we are truly blessed in Texas to have world-class facilities. I am honored to receive this award from our hospital advocates," Senator Nelson said.
