AUSTIN -- Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, has received the Texas Association of Business' Champion for Free Enterprise Award.
"To meet the economic challenges ahead, it is vital that Texas remain a hospitable location in which to own a business," said Senator Nelson, co-owner of a precision aircraft component manufacturing firm. "I appreciate receiving this award, and I am grateful for Texas' business people on whom we depend for creating jobs and economic prosperity in our state.
TAB recognized lawmakers as either "Champions" or "Fighters" for Free Enterprise, depending on the percentage of times they voted in favor of pro-business legislation. Champions voted with business 90 percent or more times. For Fighters, the threshold was 80 percent.
"It comes as no surprise that, for three consecutive sessions, Senator Nelson has earned TAB's highest honor, the Champion for Free Enterprise award," said TAB President Bill Hammond. "As a business-owner, Jane Nelson has first-hand experience with the need for sensible government and this has been reflected throughout her tenure as a legislator."
Senator Nelson has won several awards in recent weeks, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure's first-ever Legislative Champion of the Year Award; Texas' Best Medicine from the Texas Medical Association; and the ChildCare Group's Legislator of the Year Award.
