AUSTIN -- In an effort to prevent the Lottery Commission from overstating jackpots or otherwise misleading players, Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, today filed Senate Bill 52 ensuring that the Commission is subject to deceptive trade laws.
"The recent controversy surrounding false advertising of lottery jackpots underscores the inherent danger in government-sanctioned gambling. When players feel cheated, they turn to the government to step in and referee. This episode raises serious concerns about whether or not the Lottery Commission can effectively regulate itself," Senator Nelson said.
The Legislature is currently in special session to consider issues relating to the budget and education reform. The special session began June 21st and ends July 20th.
