AUSTIN -- Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, has been re-appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. Her assignments also include appointment to Senate Committees on Finance, Government Organization, and Nominations.
"I am eager to push forward with our reform efforts to protect the state's most vulnerable citizens - children, the elderly and the frail. We must also continue our efforts to improve efficiency in the health care delivery system, bolster our medical work force, promote healthier lifestyles among our youth, and make medical care more accessible to Texas families," Senator Nelson said.
Senator Nelson is the author of several major health care proposals this session, including SB 6 reforming the state's adult and protective services in response to revelations that the state's guardian services are failing to protect children in abusive homes and seniors living in substandard conditions. She also filed legislation to emphasize on nutrition and physical activity in schools, streamline the medical claims process, address the shortage of nurses and pharmacists in Texas, and reduce fraud in the Medicaid system.
