SENATOR NELSON CHIEF'S OF STAFF TAPPED FOR DIPLOMATIC POST
NANCY FLEMING TO SERVE UNDER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO SAUDI ARABIA

AUSTIN -- Nancy Fleming, Chief of Staff for Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville and an 11-year veteran staffer in the Texas Senate, has accepted a position at the United States Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She will be replaced by Senate Health & Human Services Committee Director Steve Roddy, whose current job will be filled by senior policy analyst Amy Lindley.

"It is a happy and sad day for me because I know Nancy is an adventurous world traveler who has always longed to work overseas, and I am glad that her dream has come true. At the same time, she has been a loyal, hard-working staffer, and I will miss her tremendously," Senator Nelson, Chairman of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee, said.

"I am extremely fortunate to have a very capable team in place that will be led by veteran Senate staffer Steve Roddy, who brings more than a decade of legislative experience to the position," she continued. "In our Committee office, Amy Lindley has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area of health policy."

Nancy Fleming began her career in the Texas Senate in 1993 as a State Affairs Committee clerk for former Senator Ike Harris, R-Dallas. She began working for Senator Nelson as legislative director in 1994 and was named Chief of Staff in 1995. In addition to her new position, which will commence pending final security clearance from the State Department, Ms. Fleming just recently became engaged to Austin computer programmer Mark Carpenter who will be joining her in Riyadh.

Steve Roddy joined the ranks of the Senate in 1991 as a staffer for former Senator John Leedom, R-Dallas, and worked in various positions for Senator Nelson, including legislative director and Committee Director, since 1996. Amy Lindley has a master's degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs and has worked as a health policy analyst for Senator Nelson for four years.
