AUSTIN -- Legislation filed by Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, to assist the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in its efforts to confront public emergencies has passed the Legislature and is on the way to the governor's desk. The Senate voted yesterday to concur with the House amendment to SB 756, making the bill take effect immediately upon being signed into law.
"DFW is such an important hub for our region and, in fact, our nation. We need to ensure that it has the tools it needs to be prepared against terrorism or disaster," Senator Nelson said. "This legislation will help ensure that DFW can respond quickly and efficiently."
SB 756 gives the airport a direct line to the state for disaster assistance. Under current law, in order for the airport to seek state aid it must make an application via one of the local municipalities.
