AUSTIN -- Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, was named Legislator of the Year for 2003 by the Texas Association of Marriage & Family Therapy. The group cited Senator Nelson's work on behalf of families, as well as her efforts to protect the confidentiality of therapists' notes and to ensure prompt payment of health care providers.
"There is no stronger advocate for Texas families in the Legislature than Senator Nelson. We are pleased to honor her for her work to improve health care, protect the confidentiality of patient information and ensure prompt payment of health care providers," said Susan Speight, government affairs chair of TAMFT.
Senator Nelson accepted the award during a reception last night in Austin. "I am so grateful to receive an award from a group of individuals who have devoted their life's work to helping families. Here in the State Capitol we try to do that on a large scale, but they are up close and personal, dealing with issues of the heart and mind that Texas families wrestle on a daily basis," Senator Nelson said.
