AUSTIN -- Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, announced today that construction is scheduled to begin later this month on a major widening project of Farm-to-Market 3040 (Round Grove Road) in Denton County.
"I have been heavily involved in pressing the Texas Department of Transportation to make this thoroughfare safer, and I am pleased to report that construction is about to begin," Senator Nelson said. "Transportation is such a critical issue for our community, and I am in constant contact with TxDOT to highlight the enormous needs in our community.
"I am also working with our Congressional leaders to urge the federal government to start returning to Texas the money that Texans pay at the pump for federal gas tax. Currently we receive less than 89 cents on the dollar, while states like Alaska receive $7 for every dollar collected from that state. This inequity must be resolved in order to unclog our highways," Senator Nelson said.
Construction is scheduled to begin January 30th on a project that will widen FM 3040 from two lanes to a six-lane divided highway from Edmonds Lane to FM 2499. Construction is anticipated to last 24 months.
