Interim Committee on Water Resources and Development and Management Meeting
SAN ANGELO - The Interim Committee on Water Resources and Development and Management held a public hearing Tuesday, November 17, in San Angelo at Angelo State University in the Caveness Science Building. The committee has been holding public hearings around the state throughout the interim to review the implementation of Senate Bill 1, the water plan passed during the 75th Legislative Session. Members of the committee include Senators J.E. 'Buster' Brown of Lake Jackson, serving as co-chair, Ken Armbrister of Victoria, Eddie Lucio Jr. of Brownsville, Carlos F. Truan of Corpus Christi, and Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio; and Representatives Ron Lewis of Mauriceville, serving as co-chair, Robert Cook of Eagle Pass, David Counts of Knox City, Robert Puente of San Antonio, and Gary Walker of Plains.
The committee heard invited testimony from Ken Peterson of TNRCC and Dr. Bill Harris and Dr. Bruce Lesker of the Agricultural Extension Service; followed by Craig Pederson and Dr. Tommy Knowles of the Water Development Board. They were followed by public testimony which was highlighted by State Representative Rob Junell talking about water usage in Tom Green County. The committee then held a brief discussion on the recommendations.
This is the final public hearing to be held outside of Austin. Recommendations will be submitted to the 76th Legislature which convenes January 12, 1999 at 12 noon.
