Senate Interim Committee on Public Information Adopts Interim Report
AUSTIN - The Senate Interim Committee on Public Information met Wednesday, September 30th at the Texas State Capitol to vote on the Interim report. Some of the recommendations included in the report are that all requestors have access to all information contained in accident reports, that officials who violate the Public Information Act should be subject to civil, as well as criminal penalties and that the Attorney General should issue requested opinions within 45 working days, as opposed to the 60 days now allowed. The report was adopted and will be presented to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January 1999.
Members of the committee include Senator Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio, Chair, and Senators Ken Armbrister of Victoria, John Carona of Dallas, Eliot Shapleigh of El Paso, and John Whitmire of Houston. The committee stands adjourned.
