ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE HOLDS FINAL INTERIM MEETING
AUSTIN - The Senate Interim Committee on Economic Development held its final meeting of the 75th interim on Tuesday, September 22, in the Senate Chamber. Committee members include Senators David Sibley of Waco, serving as chair, Rodney Ellis of Houston, Tom Haywood of Wichita Falls, Frank Madla of San Antonio, Steve Ogden of Bryan, Eliot Shapleigh of El Paso, and Florence Shapiro of Plano.
The committee received recommendations for consideration for one of the interim charges; study of major legislation concerning economic development enacted during the 1990's to evaluate and identify the legislation's impact on Texas businesses and the economy, such as creation and retention of jobs, financial stability of businesses, and financial investment in Texas.
The committee also heard testimony from Pat Wood, Chair of the Public Utility Commission, relating to telecommunications and the interim charge on the study and assessing the effectiveness of House Bill 2128, relating to the regulation of telecommunications utilities, to the provision of telecommunications and related services and the continuation of the Public Utility Commission; passed in the 74th Regular Session.
The committee stands recessed subject to the call of the chair.
