Joint Legislative Oversight Committee Meets in Austin
AUSTIN - Members of the Texas Integrated Enrollment and Services (TIES) Joint Legislative Oversight Committee met in a public hearing on Thursday, September 3, at the state capitol to discuss the progress of the TIES plan. The TIES interagency management team goals are to improve access and quality of services, integrate welfare to work, achieve cost of savings, and improve service and agency performance. Texas is one of the first states to try and implement this kind of project. The report was given by Health and Human Services Commission Commissioner Don Gilbert, Texas Department of Human Services Commissioner Eric Bost, Texas Department of Health Commissioner Reyn Archer and Texas Workforce Commission Executive Director Mike Sheridan. Public testimony was also heard.
Senator Bill Ratliff of Mt. Pleasant chairs the committee. Members include Senators Judith Zaffirini of Laredo, John Carona of Dallas, along with Representatives Glen Maxey of Austin, Harvey Hilderbran of Kerrville and Rob Junell of San Angelo. The committee will present their report to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January of 1999.
