SENATE FINANCE SUBCOMMITTEE MEETS AT STATE CAPITOL
AUSTIN - Members of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Articles 4 and 5 held a public hearing on Monday, May 18. The committee is responsible for looking into judiciary, public safety, and criminal justice issues around the state. Senator Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio chairs the committee that includes Senators David Sibley of Waco and Eddie Lucio of Brownsville as members.
The hearing consisted of invited testimony from various agencies and commissions from around the state including the Adjutant General's Department, the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the National Guard Armory Board, the Commission of Fire Protection and the Commission on Jail Standards. Also testifying were representatives of the Juvenile Probation Commission, the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, the Polygraph Examiners Board, and the Board of Private Investors and Private Securing Agencies. The Council on Sex Offender Treatment and the Youth Commission also provided testimony.
The committee will gather its findings and make any recommendations to the Senate Finance Committee which will then report to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January of next year.
