LEGISLATORS REVIEW NURSING HOME CONDITIONS IN TEXAS
AUSTIN - On Monday, March 30, members from both the Senate and the House of Representatives discussed the conditions of Texas nursing homes at the state capitol. The committee on Survey Regarding Nursing Facilities is a joint subcommittee of the Health and Human Services Committee.
Serving on the committee are Senators Judith Zaffirini of Laredo (chair) and Jane Nelson of Flower Mound and Representatives Jim McReynolds and Elliott Naishtat.
The members are responsible for identifying significant problems in the nursing facility regulatory system and make recommendations for legislative action. Members reviewed the effectiveness and efficiency of certain nursing home facilities through survey results and panel discussions. Monday's meeting consisted of public and invited testimony from nursing home surveyors, administrators, and concerned Texans.
The committee will gather its findings and report any necessary recommendations to the Health and Human Services committee which will then present the report to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January of next year.
