INSIGHTS INTO ILLEGAL GAMBLING DISCUSSED BY GOVERNOR'S TASK FORCE
AUSTIN - On Tuesday, February 3, members of the Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling met in a public hearing at the state capitol. Chaired by Senator David Sibley of Waco, the task force is responsible for looking into current gambling operations that are illegal such as slot machines and reviewing current methods of regulation. Also serving on the committee are Representative Allen Place who serves as Vice-Chair and Representative Terry Keel along with nine other governor appointed members.
The members heard invited testimony from representatives of the Attorney General's Office and respective agencies such as the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Lottery Commission, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). The Texas District and County Attorneys Association explained the process of training district attorneys and county attorneys. Tom Green District Attorney testified to the process of their county's prosecutions. Public testimony and administrative business followed.
The next meeting will be held in either April or May.
