Legislators Continue Discussion on Higher Education

AUSTIN - On Thursday, January 29, legislators continued a public hearing at the State Capitol in which education was the topic of discussion. The Senate Interim Finance Subcommittee on Article III Agencies is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the processes and procedures of Texas higher education systems.

Members include Senator Mike Moncrief of Fort Worth as Chair and Senators J.E. "Buster" Brown of Lake Jackson and Judith Zaffirini of Laredo.

Testimony continued with representatives from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Yesterday's testimony included representatives from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas A&M University Health Science Center and College of Dentistry, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

The committee will report its findings and recommendations to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January of next year.
