Higher Education Issues Discussed at State Capitol
AUSTIN - Education was the topic of discussion of a public hearing legislators held at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 28. The Senate Interim Finance Subcommittee on Article III Agencies is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the processes and procedures of Texas higher education systems.
Members include Senator Mike Moncrief of Fort Worth as Chair and Senators J.E. "Buster" Brown of Lake Jackson and Judith Zaffirini of Laredo.
The hearing contained testimony from representatives of various centers of education. Among the institutions represented were the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas A&m University Health Science Center and College of Dentistry, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
The hearing will continue tomorrow, January 29, with testimony from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The committee will report its findings and recommendations to the 76th Legislature which convenes in January of next year.
