Sen. Bettencourt praises Comptroller Hegar stopping Harris County Defunding Constables
Comptroller Glenn Hegar pushes back against Harris County Judge’s “defund the police” budget
Houston, TX – Senator Paul Bettencourt (R- Houston) releases a statement regarding Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar’s support of law enforcement by ensuring Harris County cannot adopt a tax rate higher than the no-new-revenue rate until the Harris County Commissioners Court has restored funding for the Harris County Constable’s office from Precinct 5, or a public vote occurs.
“Comptroller Hegar’s finding is correct as it is simple math to compare a seven month fiscal year to a standard twelve month one. Harris County Judge, Lina Hidalgo ‘protests too much!’ Bottom line is the defunding of Constable Precinct 5 needs to stop now!” Said Senator Bettencourt.
