Senator Creighton on Passage of Pre-Kindergarten Legislation

AUSTIN — Today, Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) made the following statement after the Senate passage of Governor Abbott's pre-kindergarten legislation, House Bill 4:

"I support the intent of obtaining more data for pre-kindergarten programs and tying them to outcomes. However, we do not need to spend more money to receive information and data school districts should already be providing the state. Additional revenue should be spent only after verifiable data and measureable results are gathered."

"I applaud Governor Abbott's efforts to enhance the pre-kindergarten program for families that do not have the luxury of keeping their child in a home-learning environment, but our current pre-kindergarten funding level of $1.5 billion is more than sufficient to reach that goal."

House Bill 4 passed the Texas Senate by a vote of 25-6. The nay votes include Senators Konni Burton (R-Colleyville), Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe), Troy Fraser (R-Horseshoe Bay), Bob Hall (R-Edgewood), Don Huffines (R-Dallas), and Van Taylor (R-Plano).

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
