Senator Creighton on Committee Passage of Campus Carry and Open Carry
Passage a victory for Texans' Second Amendment rights

AUSTIN — Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe), member of the Senate Committee on State Affairs, issued the following statement in regard to today's passage of Senate Bills 11 and 17, Campus Carry and Open Carry:

"I am grateful for today's discussion on campus carry and open carry," said Senator Creighton. "We heard the voices of Texans from across the state on their preferences on these important issues and heard their voices loud and clear. There is a strong sentiment to strengthen the Second Amendment and I anticipate my colleagues will do so this session."

"A legislator's first oath and priority is to uphold the U.S. Constitution. That's what we accomplished today and what we will continue to do as we move forward with the diversity of issues facing our state."

"Currently, twenty-three states allow CHL-holders to carry on college campuses and forty-four states allow some form of open carry," Senator Creighton continued. "Our state deserves better than the restrictions New York, Illinois, and California hold on their citizens."

"Today's committee votes to pass both Senate Bill 11 and 17 represent a victory for the law-abiding citizens of Texas who deserve the right to protect themselves and their families."

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
