AUSTIN, TX -- Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. will accompany Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (San Antonio) on a tour of the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston to offer their support and comfort to soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan tomorrow, April 1.
Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (San Antonio), chair of the Senate Committee for Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, invited Sen. Lucio and other legislators to tour these medical facilities in San Antonio, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding with a hearing of the Committee at 1:30 p.m.
"I am grateful to Sen. Van de Putte for inviting me to her district to see the facilities where our troops are receiving the finest of health care," said Sen. Lucio. "I commend her for bringing greater awareness of the need for continued funding and support of necessary medical and other services to help our troops rehabilitate and transition back into civilian life."
The highlight of the tour for Sen. Lucio will be the opportunity to meet the patients at the 60,000 square foot Center for the Intrepid, where treatment is given to soldiers from throughout the country, including the South Texas region, but particularly to amputees and those severely wounded. He also looks forward to meeting some of the family members of the soldiers, as well as the medical staff of the facilities, including the Institute of Surgical Research.
Sen. Lucio will be available for interviews over the phone later Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday for your convenience. Please call Doris Sanchez at 512-463-0385 or Louie Sanchez at 956-459-7544 if you would like to speak to him for a story.
