AUSTIN, TX -- My vote for Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 20 was to guarantee property tax relief as we promised during the last special legislative session and to move the budgetary process forward. Without this vote our hands would have been tied and I would not have been able to work on a budget that I hope will restore funding to the Children's Health Insurance Program or other vital state services. However, my primary reason for giving my approval to lifting the budget cap was for our school children. Nothing is more important to me than our children and funding our public schools adequately.
I was also glad to support Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 13 that will extend property tax cuts to our seniors. Our seniors, more than most, deserve to be part of the property tax cuts we enacted last year.
